WANTED: Candidates to represent MEA-Retired

The Maine Education Association will conduct elections for the following candidate vacancies for MEA-Retired members during the 2020 election season:

1.    MEA Representative Assembly Delegates/Alternates – 4 statewide delegate vacancies exist to represent the MEA-Retired Association at the MEA Representative Assembly for 3-year terms.   In addition, there are 10 vacancies for alternate delegates: 4 for 3-year terms; 3 for 2-year terms; and 3 for 1-year terms.  The MEA Representative Assembly will take place at the Marriott Sable Oaks in South Portland on May 16 and 17, 2020.  Application Deadline:  January 21, 2020.

2.    NEA Representative Assembly Delegates/Successor Delegates – Four (4) statewide vacancies exist to represent the MEA-Retired Association at the National Education Association (NEA) Representative Assembly and the NEA-Retired Annual Meeting for one-year terms along with the MEA-Retired President and President-elect.

Delegates should expect to attend the NEA-Retired Annual Meeting, which will take place in Atlanta, GA from June 28 and 29, and the NEA Representative Assembly, which will take place from July 4 through July 7, 2020.  NEA-R Members for Life who are exempted from unification are not eligible to run for these positions; however, they may vote for candidates.  Application Deadline:  January 21, 2020

Notice of Intent Forms to be a candidate will be available in December at MEA-Retired’s website at www.mearetired.com, or contact Terry Gordon at tgordon@maineea.org or 1-888-622-4418, ext. 2218.  Forms will only be mailed to those requesting them. Only ballots for contested elections will be mailed to MEA-Retired members in February. Unopposed candidates will be declared elected by the MEA Elections Committee.
